Vol. 542 No. 1

Written Answers. - Offshore Exploration.

Ivor Callely

Question:

37 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the estimated commercial values of the Corrib gas accumulation and the Helvick oil field; the progress made in developing activities on the fields; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22602/01]

The commercial value of any petroleum development is sensitive, commercial information and is a matter for the companies involved. There are no plans for the development of the Helvic Field at this juncture.

In so far as the Corrib field is concerned, the Corrib Group must first get a lease from me demising the petroleum in the field to them. This will issue shortly. On receipt of the lease, the Corrib Group may then submit to me for my approval a plan of development accompanied by an environmental impact statement for the field. Development may only commence where approval to the plan of development is given.
