Vol. 542 No. 1

Written Answers. - On-farm Valuation Scheme.

Willie Penrose

Question:

70 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if the arbitration panel which was promised to deal with compensation for herdowners who lost all their herd has been established; if not, the reason therefor; if he will give details of the membership of the panel; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23492/01]

Under the terms of the on-farm valuation scheme, the arbitration panel will consist of an independent chairperson together with representation from the farming organisations and from my Department. The chairperson and the Department's representative have been selected but I am awaiting notification of an agreed nomination from the farming organisations as to which person will represent them on the panel.

A further meeting with the farming organisations to review the general operation of the scheme has been fixed for today and I am hopeful that I will be in a position to establish the panel shortly.
