Vol. 542 No. 1

Written Answers. - Mental Health Act.

Bernard Allen

Question:

89 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the extra resources being made available to implement the Mental Health Act, 2001. [23540/01]

The first priority under the Mental Health Act is the establishment of the Mental Health Commission and it is hoped to appoint the members of the commission within the next few months. A sum of £1.98 million, 2.51 million, was provided this year for the implementation of proposals in the Act including the establishment of the Mental Health Commission.

The additional resources required to enable the provisions in the Mental Health Act, 2001, to be implemented will be considered in the context of the overall determination of expenditure for the mental health services for 2002 and subsequent years.
