Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Public Health (Tobacco) Bill, 2001.

Denis Naughten

Question:

357 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received from the Irish Retail Newsagents Association a submission relating to the Public Health (Tobacco) Bill, 2001; if, in view of this submission, he plans to amend the legislation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24313/01]

Officials from my Department met representatives of the Irish Retail Newsagents Association on 24 August regarding the Public Health (Tobacco) Bill, 2001. The Association submitted a document at that meeting regarding its concerns over some provisions of the Bill and recommending changes to some sections. The association also requested clarification regarding certain sections of the Bill. The association's concerns and recommendations have been noted and my Department will be in further contact regarding the issues raised.
