Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - RAPID Programme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

475 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the progress made to date regarding the implementation of the RAPID programme in the Cork city area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24017/01]

Since I launched the RAPID programme in Cork in March last, significant progress has been made. A working group was immediately established by the Cork City Development Board to begin the process of implementing the pogramme and the city monitoring group was established in June. Consultations with local communities was initiated by the community forum representatives of the city monitoring group in April and this work is being built upon by the local co-ordinators who took up their positions in August. The area implementation teams are commencing work this week on the drawing up of local area plans, the target date for completion of which is 31 December next. The front-loading of investment under the national development plan will follow in 2002 and 2003.
