Vol. 542 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

454 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide a temporary assistant teacher to Scoil Naomh Padraig, Corr a Chrainn, Emyvale, County Monaghan, until September 2002; if he will provide a full-time resource teacher for this school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25003/01]

The staffing of a primary school is determined by reference to the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous school year. The actual number of mainstream posts sanctioned is determined by reference to a staffing schedule and is finalised for a particular year following discussions with the education partners.

The current staffing of this school is a principal and seven mainstream class teachers based on the enrolment of 205 as at 30 September 2000. This is the authorised staffing for the school. The school also has the services of a learning support teacher and a resource teacher.

All eligible pupils in the school in question are in receipt of resource teaching support through their inclusion on the caseload of a full-time resource teacher which the school shares with two other school in the area. The level of resource teacher support currently allocated for pupils in the school is based on their assessed needs. These did not warrant the allocation of a full time resource teaching post solely to this school. The organisation of classes within the school is a matter for the board of management in consultation with the school principal.
