Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

171 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the action which has been taken following the flooding which took place at various locations in north Kildare in November 2000 with particular reference to Leixlip, Maynooth, Hazelhatch, Celbridge and Straffan; if he will report on remedial action required arising from the flooding; the position regarding this; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25671/01]

The Commissioners of Public Works have been in correspondence with Kildare County Council in relation to the flooding which took place in north Kildare last November. The council has forwarded reports to the Office of Public Works in relation to flooding in the Maynooth area and my officials have indicated to the local authority that consideration would be given to the provision of funding for minor works that may give immediate benefit, subject to the availability of funds in the Office of Public Works Vote at the relevant time. The Commissioners of Public Works are currently carrying out a flood alleviation scheme in Hazelhatch which will be substantially completed next month.
