Written Answers. - Health Services.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

186 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on whether the policy to tackle asthma is failing; and the alternative approach to this issue which is in preparation by his Department. [25436/01]

The diagnosis and treatment of asthma is a matter for those professionals, particularly doctors, with responsibility for patient care. Management of patients with asthma is based on international best practice and on protocols and guidelines devised by the relevant standards bodies such as the Irish College of General Practitioners.
