Question:

167 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the importance of decentralisation to the promotion of regional development for the border region, he will give favourable consideration to County Cavan as a centre for decentralisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25643/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 166 and 167 together.

The Cabinet Sub-committee on Decentralisation is currently considering all of the issues related to a new programme of decentralisation. Consideration, in this regard, is, of course, being given to the selection of suitable locations to which decentralised offices would be relocated. I am well aware of the case advanced for the inclusion of County Cavan in a new programme and the Deputy can be assured that this case will be taken fully into account as part of the Government's deliberations.
