Vol. 543 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Jim Higgins

Question:

93 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will approve the necessary finance to provide an MRI scanner at Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, County Mayo. [25389/01]

The development of acute hospital services includes the development of a strong network of local and general hospitals supported by larger regional hospitals where more specialised services are available and which provide a broad range of regional specialties to the region they serve. In this context specialist MRI services for the Western Health Board region are provided at UCHG. The board has no plans to provide MRI services at Mayo General Hospital.
