Vol. 543 No. 1

Written Answers. - Private Health Providers.

Ivor Callely

Question:

138 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health and Children the likely developments in additional services for the public health sector provided by private providers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24839/01]

My Department is currently making preparations for a public-private partnership, PPP, programme in the health sector. The use of PPPs as a method of procurement can create valuable opportunities for health agencies to enter into long-term arrangements with private sector partners to deliver quality services effectively and efficiently. Examples of possible areas in which PPPs may be used are community nursing units for the elderly and health centres.
