Vol. 543 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Policy.

Bernard Allen

Question:

164 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he proposes to develop the policy of no fault compensation and a health ombudsman to improve the quality of health care in the health system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25753/01]

The advisory group examining the feasibility of introducing a "no fault" scheme for infants who suffer brain damage at, or close to, the time of birth has already held two meetings and a further meeting is to be held on 5 November. The group hopes to produce at least an interim report by the summer of 2002. The question of complaints procedures for patients and clients of the health services will be addressed in the forthcoming health strategy.
