Vol. 543 No. 1

Written Answers. - Child Care Services.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

62 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps being taken to implement the recommendations made following an inquiry into the death of a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25615/01]

A copy of the judgment referred to by the Deputy has been sent to the chief executive officer of each health board. Each chief executive officer has been requested to ensure that the implications of the judgment are carefully considered and that appropriate measures are put in place to address relevant points in the handling of child care cases in the future.

In addition, my Department recently published national standards for children's residential centres which will serve as a basis for consistently promoting quality care in children's residential homes. These standards apply to both statutory and voluntary homes. National standards for special care units have also been issued by my Department to all health boards.
