Vol. 543 No. 1

Written Answers. - Maternity Services.

Tom Enright

Question:

76 Mr. Enright asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the majority of maternity hospitals do not have an electronic baby tagging system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25511/01]

My Department is informed by the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards that a comprehensive set of security measures are in place in maternity units and hospitals. In addition, electronic baby tagging systems are in place in the three Dublin maternity hospitals, and in a number of the regional maternity hospitals and units around the country. My Department is further informed that in each of the remaining maternity hospitals and units, plans are at an advanced stage to have such systems installed, in addition to the existing security measures.
