Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Suckler Cow Quota.

John Perry

Question:

218 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 241 of 9 October 2001, his attention has been drawn to the fact that the herd owner has the required number of animals, tag numbers supplied, and an RSI number; if he will grant this person a quota; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25858/01]

The position regarding the suckler cow quota in this case is set out in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 241 of 9 October 2001. In that reply it was indicated that if the person concerned submitted details of any exceptional circumstances which may have prevented him from using his full suckler cow quota in 2001, the matter would be reviewed. However, the person concerned, despite having being afforded two opportunities to do so, still has not replied to my Department's letter of 20 September 2001.

He is now being offered a final opportunity to submit details of any exceptional circumstances which may have prevented him from using his full suckler cow quota in 2001. If he does not avail of this opportunity and reply to my Department at Michael Davitt House Castlebar, County Mayo, without further delay, there will be no option but to forfeit the five premium rights that he did not use in 2001 and return them to the National Reserve.
