Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Development Plan.

Bernard Allen

Question:

318 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Finance the amount of money which has been allocated and spent to date by his Department in each county under the national development plan. [26539/01]

I understand that the Deputy has put down a similar question to other Ministers and their responses will indicate NDP expenditure in the areas for which each Minister is responsible.

As Minister for Finance, my Department is responsible for the direct allocation and spending of funds under the technical assistance operational programme and also the peace programme. The amount spent on each of these programmes is not currently available at county levels but at regional and national levels.

In the NDP-CSF technical assistance operational programme 2000-06, the total allocation for the State as a whole in 2000 and 2001 is 4.4 million, £3.47 million, of which 0.359 million, £0.282 million, has been spent from 1 January 2000 to 30 June 2001. These amounts can be broken down between the BMW and the southern and eastern regional assembly areas, with the BMW's regional assembly allocation being 1.6 million, £1.26 million, in 2000 and 2001, of which it has spent 0.16 million, £0.126 million, from 1 January 2000 to 30 June 2001. The southern and eastern regional assembly area was allocated 2.8 million, £2.21 million, in 2000 and 2001 and spent 0.199 million, £0.156 million, from 1 January 2000 to 30 June 2001. Spending on technical assistance traditionally accelerates as programmes progress.

My Department is also responsible for the allocation and spending of funds for the peace II operational programme. The peace II programme was only agreed with the European Commission this year, therefore no spending has occurred on this programme to date. Spending is anticipated to begin very soon now that matters have been resolved. Currently there is ongoing expenditure under the peace I programme for the 1994-99 national development plan.
