Question:

345 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of medical cards issued by the eight health boards for each of the past five years; the number of new cards issued to those over 70 years of age in 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25989/01]

The number of persons covered by medical cards in the eight health board and health authority regions for each of the past five years, and the current position, are as detailed in the following table. With regard to the number of new cards issued to those aged 70 years and over in 2001, this information is being compiled and checked at present. I will revert to the Deputy as soon as it is available.
