Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Medical Examinations.

Noel Ahern

Question:

391 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health and Children if the drivers licence medical examination for senior citizens is not covered by the medical card; if so, the reason it is not available; his views on future Government policy in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26315/01]

Certificates required by employers to cover the absence of their employees due to illness are the only certificates covered under the medical card scheme. It is not my intention to extend the list of services available to persons aged 70 years and over, or indeed any other category of medical card holder, to include the cost of the certificate required when applying for a drivers licence.
