Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Road Safety.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

478 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position in relation to the use of mobile phones by those driving vehicles; and his proposals regarding this matter. [25951/01]

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 662, 671 and 721 of 3 October 2001. The position is unchanged.

Notwithstanding the absence of a specific prohibition at present, any use of a mobile phone that results in a person driving in a manner which could be regarded as dangerous or careless, may be prosecuted under the Road Traffic Acts.
