Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Seán Ryan

Question:

516 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of houses which have been purchased in each of the local authority areas for 1999 and 2000 in respect of the tenant purchase scheme; and if he will provide a more favourable scheme in the near future. [26613/01]

Information on the level of activity under local authority tenant purchase schemes is published in my Department's housing statistics bulletins, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library.

I consider that the terms of the present tenant purchase scheme strike a reasonable balance between the aspirations of existing tenants to own their own homes and the housing needs of those on the local authority waiting lists. While I have no proposals, at this stage, to amend the terms of the current scheme, I am keeping them under continuing review.
