Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Jack Wall

Question:

546 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the amount of funding his Department has given to An Taisce in each of the past five years; if he will give a breakdown of the funding county by county; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26944/01]

Most funding provided by my Department to An Taisce is channelled to its national organisation and a breakdown of this funding by county is not available. From 2001, funding of £55,000 – 69,835.59 – per annum is being provided to An Taisce for a period of three years to assist it in carrying out its functions as a prescribed body under the Planning Acts. My Department also provides grant aid to An Taisce as a contribution towards the administration expenses of the blue flag scheme in Ireland and co-finances the anti-litter initiative, the national spring clean, which is led by An Taisce.

In addition, An Taisce at local level has received some grants from the environmental partnership fund, which is financed centrally by my Department but administrated through the local authorities. Details of the above and of other miscellaneous funding provided by my Department to An Taisce is set out in the following table.
