Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Roads Projects.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

560 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the realignment of the road and bridge at Bond Bridge, Maynooth, County Kildare; when he expects work to commence on the project; the total costs involved; the likely duration; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26974/01]

I understand that consultants have been appointed by Kildare County Council to carry out detailed design and prepare contract documents for this project, which will be funded from the council's own resources. I am informed that the scheme will provide for a 6.5 metres wide carriageway, two 1.8 metres wide footpaths and two 1.5 metres cycle lanes. Kildare County Council expects that construction will be completed by early 2004, at an estimated cost of £3 million–3.8 million.
