Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Status.

Question:

758 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of applications he has received under the fund for the development of targeted educational responses to certain children at risk and other initiatives to tackle disadvantage; the amount of total funding which is available to support projects; the date at which the relevant departmental committee will meet on this subject; and if he will give consideration to a proposal (details supplied). [26068/01]

My Department received a total of 85 complete applications for funding under the fund for the development of targeted educational responses to certain children at risk. As the Deputy may be aware, this fund is the responsibility of my colleague Deputy Hanafin, the Minister of State at the Department of Education and Science. The total amount available under the fund is £1 million. A departmental committee met on Wednesday, 24 October 2001, and again on Thursday, 1 November, to assess applications. Applicants, including the one referred to by the Deputy, will be advised of the decision in relation to their project as soon as possible.
