Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Planning Regulations.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

113 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans he has to amend planning regulations and standards for the Environmental Protection Agency. [26718/01]

In the circumstances identified by the Deputy, responsibility for the regulation of aircraft noise and for related operational matters rests with the Minister for Public Enterprise and the Irish Aviation Authority as appropriate. Airport development is subject to normal planning control, including in certain instances environmental impact assessment, and I have no proposals to amend the planning regulations in this regard.

More generally, in terms of integrated pollution control licensing by the EPA, I will shortly bring forward a Bill to amend the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992, for the purposes primarily of updating the licensing system in line with the legislative developments.
