Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Physical Education Facilities.

John McGuinness

Question:

784 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the status of an application for a gym for Coláiste Éamann Rís Callan, County Kilkenny; the date the application was received; when a decision will be received in this case; if the cost of the project has been established; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26334/01]

My Department has not yet received a request from the school to which the Deputy refers for the provision of a gymnasium on site. However, an application has been received seeking additional classroom accommodation and any decision to provide a gymnasium will be made in conjunction with this application and based on the projected long-term enrolment at the school. This projection is currently being assessed by the planning unit of my Department and is essential in determining the size of the gymnasium to be provided in this case.
