Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Tony Gregory

Question:

818 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will cancel the suppression of a third assistant teacher post at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 1. [26480/01]

The staffing of a primary school is determined by reference to the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous school year. The actual number of mainstream posts sanctioned is determined by reference to a staffing schedule, which is finalised for a particular year following discussions with the education partners.

I note that this school applied for two additional teaching posts on developing grounds for the school year 2001-02, based on a projected increase in enrolment of more than 86 pupils between 30 September 2000 and 30 September 2001.
The two additional teaching posts were granted on a provisional basis only, subject to the projected enrolment been attained on 30 September. One post has since been sanctioned on a permanent basis but, unfortunately, the enrolment required for the second post was not achieved on 30 September.
Question No. 819 answered with Question No. 794.
