Question:

130 Mr. Coveney asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the amount of construction and demolition waste which is being disposed of in landfills; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26710/01]

The latest official data on construction and demolition, C&D, waste are contained in the national waste database report for 1998 published by the EPA in March 2000. The report indicates that over 2.7 million tonnes of C&D waste was sent to landfill in 1998, of which almost 1.2 million tonnes, 43%, was recovered and used for construction purposes or as landfill cover.
