Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Competition Authority Investigations.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

147 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the impact of the decision by the Competition Authority to investigate an offer by a company (details supplied); and her views on the fact that many shareholders have surrendered share certificates and are awaiting payment. [25885/01]

The offer to which the Deputy refers was cleared by me under the Mergers and Takeovers (Control) Acts, 1978 to 1996, without referral to the Competition Authority following undertakings given by the parties to ensure against any anti-competitive behaviour. I am aware that most shareholders have surrendered their share certificates and I hope that the deal will conclude quickly so that they can receive payment.
