Vol. 543 No. 4

Written Answers. - Digital Terrestrial Television.

John Perry

Question:

145 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if her attention has been drawn to the media comment concerning the possible carriage of RTE on a company (details supplied); the implications of any such arrangement for the development of digital terrestrial television here; her views on such an arrangement; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [27244/01]

The question of carriage on any given platform is a matter for the individual broadcaster. I have no statutory function in the matter.

In relation to the introduction of digital terrestrial television, DTT, in Ireland the object of the two processes under way at present is to facilitate the establishment of the DTT platform. Once established that platform will then be a commercial operation and will be subject to market conditions.
