Vol. 543 No. 4

Written Answers. - Transport Services.

Richard Bruton

Question:

158 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the estimated annual cost of transport services to the islands; the extent to which this cost is covered by subvention and by revenue from fares. [27386/01]

I would not be in a position to estimate either the annual cost of transport services to the islands or the amount paid in fares for these services. It is estimated, however, that my Department will, in 2001, pay a total in the region of £1.477 million in subsidies towards the provision of ferry and air services to the islands.
