Vol. 543 No. 4

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

173 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will allocate sufficient funds for a school (details supplied) in County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27278/01]

Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): During the summer of 2001, I announced an allocation of £1.5 million to allow schools to commission psychological assessments from private practitioners, pending the expansion of the national educational psychological service, NEPS, to all schools. NEPS is administering this scheme on behalf of my Department. I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the school mentioned by him is entitled to commission two psychological assessments at present. A NEPS psychologist will contact the school during the coming weeks to discuss the details of four other children who are also felt to be in need of individual assessment.
