Vol. 543 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Archives.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

19 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the likely timetable for the construction of a new building for the National Archives; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [27152/01]

On my initiative, the Minister for Finance has sanctioned the construction of new offices for the National Archives entailing redevelopment of the existing site at Bishop Street subject to the Office of Public Works investigating the feasibility of delivering the project as a public private partnership venture.

I understand that Office of Public Works have now reported the outcome of their investigations to the Department of Finance and are awaiting their decision. The matter of a timetable for the redevelopment project is for the Office of Public Works to draw up once definitive sanction to proceed is given by the Department of Finance.
