46 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the level of Government spending on energy conservation, distinguishing the expenditure on housing, transport, industry and the operations of public authorities. [27390/01]

The Irish Energy Centre implements initiatives on energy conservation on behalf of the Department of Public Enterprise.

Expenditure from 2000 to date amounts to £3 million or 3.8 million which was incurred in the following areas:

Consumer Awareness Programme

£1.409 million(1.789 million)

Industry

£0.890 million(1.130 million)

Transport

£0.133 million(0.169 million)

Public Authorities

£0.046 million(0.058 million)

Housing

£0.185 million(0.235 million)

Research and Development and Statistics

£0.344 million(0.437 million)

The operations of public authorities in the field of energy conservation in housing arising from the requirements of the building regulations is a matter for the Minister for Environment and Local Government.
