Vol. 543 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Staffing.

Bernard Allen

Question:

93 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received a communication from the faculty of radiologists at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland expressing concern at the radiologist staffing crisis and the effect it is having on the provision of X-ray services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27360/01]

I presume the Deputy is referring to radiography staff shortages. The dean and the board of the faculty of radiology at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland have written to my Department to express their concern arising from shortages of trained radiographic staff and to offer their support to my Department in addressing the problem, including in relation to the provision of additional radiographic training facilities. Officials from my Department will be meeting with representatives of the faculty of radiography shortly to discuss their proposals.
