167 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment her plans to improve the terms of statutory redundancy; the total payments made in 2001 under the Redundancy Payments Act, 1979; and the amount per worker made redundant. [27760/01]
From January to October 2001, statutory redundancy received by some 9,750 workers amounted to £25.1 million. The average amount received was almost £2,600. In the same period, redundancy expenditure from the Social Insurance Fund amounted to £16.5 million, £12.9 million in rebates to employers and £3.6 million directly to employees where employers were unable to make statutory payments.
