Vol. 543 No. 5

Written Answers. - Flood Alleviation Works.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

268 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance if he has received proposals from Kildare County Council for flood alleviation works in Maynooth, County Kildare; the cost of the proposals; if he will allocate finance for the required works; the timescale for the completion of the work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27911/01]

I assume the Deputy is referring to reports on the Lyreen and Meadowbrook rivers which were received by the Office of Public Works from Kildare County Council in October 2001. Preliminary indications are that significant additional information is required before a decision can be taken as to whether a viable flood prevention scheme can be devised. The Office of Public Works will meet with Kildare County Council in the near future to discuss the matter.
