Bernard Allen

Question:

282 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the vaccination rates of all EU countries for polio. [27433/01]

I am advised by the National Disease Surveillance Centre that polio immunisation uptake rates in Ireland for the years 1998-2001 are as follows: 1998, 84%; 1999, 86%; 2000, 86%; 2001 (to June), 85%.

Polio immunisation uptake figures, at two years of age, provided by the Public Health Laboratory Service, England, are as follows: 1997-98, 96%; 1998-99, 95%; 1999/2000, 95%.

Polio immunisation uptake data in respect of other European Union countries is not available to my Department.
