Vol. 543 No. 5

Written Answers. - Nursing Staff.

Bernard Allen

Question:

287 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received from the Irish Medical Organisation objections to the post of nurse facilitator; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27438/01]

In response to a recommendation of the Commission on Nursing, my Department has made funding available to the health boards for the appointment of practice nurse facilitators to assist in identifying and supporting the development needs of practice nurses. However, the Irish Medical Organisation has raised some concerns with my Department in relation to this development. A tripartite meeting between my Department, the Irish Medical Organisation and the Irish Nurses Organisation is being arranged to discuss those concerns.
