Question:289 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the average waiting period at end of year for acute hospital care in each of the years since 1990. [27440/01]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 288 and 289 together.
The current waiting list initiative was introduced in 1993. The total number on public in-patient waiting lists for all specialties, as reported by health agencies, at the end of each year since 1993 is as follows:

Data on waiting times for in-patient treatment is collated in relation to the nine waiting list target specialties; cardiac surgery, ENT, gynaecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, general surgery, urology and vascular surgery. These figures are broken down by adults waiting three to 12 months and 12 months and over, and children waiting three to six months and six months and over. The figures for each year since 1993 are as follows:
