Question:

309 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Health and Children the total numbers employed in the Western Health Board for each of the years 1989 to 2000 under various headings (details supplied). [27602/01]

The staffing levels for the Western Health Board area as requested by the Deputy are as follows: The first year from which the information requested by the Deputy is available on a comparable basis is 1990 and consequently figures are not shown for 1989.

Note 1: All figures are expressed as wholetime equivalents.
Note 2: The grade category of Management-Administrative also includes staff who are of direct service to patients, such as Consultants' Secretaries, Community Welfare Officers, Out-Patient Department Personnel, Ward Clerks, Medical Records Personnel and Telephonists who are engaged in front line duties.
Note 3: Figures supplied are as recorded in the annual Health Service Personnel at 31 December each year.
Note 4: With the introduction of the Nursing Diploma programme student nurses are no longer classified as employees and are therefore shown separately.
