Vol. 543 No. 5

Written Answers. - Driving Tests.

Michael Ring

Question:

378 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the steps the Government has taken regarding the advertising of the theory test necessary to receive a first provisional licence; and if the information is widely available to the public. [27738/01]

Following the launch of the driver theory test last June the driver theory testing service undertook an extensive publicity campaign on television, radio and in the print media to publicise the introduction of the theory test. In addition my Department prepared an explanatory leaflet on the driver theory test and included information on the requirement to undergo the test in driving licence application forms. The explanatory leaflet and application forms are available from motor taxation offices and were also distributed to the Gárda Síochána for distribution to Garda stations as has been the practice with driving licence application forms. Application forms for the theory test are also available in the motor tax offices.
