Vol. 543 No. 5

Written Answers. - Water Quality.

387.

sked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the factors which apply in the determination of water quality for human consumption; the minimum criteria which apply; the highest standards required; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28081/01]

Stringent drinking water quality standards are prescribed in the European Communities (Quality of Water Intended for Human Consumption) Regulations, 1988, a copy of which is available in the Oireachtas Library. These regulations also prescribe the methods and frequency of analyses required for the monitoring of drinking water quality, having regard to the prescribed standards. The EPA publishes a report annually on the quality of drinking water in Ireland and a copy of its most recent report, for 1999, is also available in the Oireachtas Library.
