Vol. 543 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

466 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he is satisfied that adequate Garda strength is deployed to the various stations in north Kildare to combat crime with particular reference to the drugs problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28045/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that local Garda management is satisfied that the current personnel strength is adequate to meet the present policing needs of the north Kildare area.

All Garda operational personnel have a responsibility for, and are tasked with, the enforcement of drugs legislation. In addition, specialised drug units have been established in Garda divisions countrywide. Furthermore, the Garda national drugs unit assists local Garda investigation teams in particular cases as necessary.

Questions Nos. 467 and 468 answered with Question No. 119.
