Vol. 543 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

475 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views, further to Parliamentary Question No. 409 of 23 October, on whether Garda stations in north Kildare require an increase in personnel to provide parity in terms of ratio to population; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28056/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that local Garda management is satisfied that the current personnel strength is adequate to meet the present policing needs of the north Kildare area.

Question:

476 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will consider increasing Garda strength at Leixlip, Celbridge and Maynooth, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28057/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that Celbridge and Maynooth Garda stations are in the Naas district and Leixlip Garda station is in the Lucan district. The current personnel strength of each of these districts as at 1 November is as follows:

Lucan

155

Naas

118

I am further informed by the Garda authorities that local Garda management is satisfied that current personnel strength at these stations is adequate to meet the present policing needs of the areas concerned.
