Vol. 543 No. 5

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

508 Mr. M. Moynihan asked the Minister for Education and Science when a request by a person (details supplied) in County Cork for one-to-one tuition hours will be approved; and the financial contribution his Department will make towards the cost of private tuition in the event of a further delay. [27628/01]

My Department allocates resource posts, special needs assistant posts and concessionary teaching hours to second level schools to cater for the needs of special needs pupils. Applications for such support are made to my Department by the relevant school authorities. Each case is considered on its merits and determined on the advice of the psychological service.

The authorities of the school concerned have submitted an application for additional resources to cater for the needs of the person referred to by the Deputy. The application has been referred to the psychological service for a report. As soon as the report has been received and considered, my Department will notify the school authorities of the decision.
