Question:

518 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received an application for refurbishment works at Lumcloom national school, County Offaly; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27799/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 516 and 518 together.

A building project to provide three new classrooms and ancillary accommodation at the school in question was approved by the building unit of my Department and is currently at stage 3 of the architectural planning process. However, the school authorities recently requested that an additional classroom be included in the proposed building project. In the light of this request, a review of the accommodation requirements of the school is being carried out by the planning section of my Department. Factors such as demographic trends and availability of places in other schools in the area will be taken into consideration in the course of this review. A decision on this matter will be made and notified to the school authorities as soon as possible.
