112 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the main features of his proposal for the establishment of a Garda inspectorate; when the required legislation will be published; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27642/01]

The main features of the Garda inspectorate are set out in the measures I have published for the establishment of the inspectorate. I would refer the Deputy to these measures which were laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas on 19 October 2001.

Work on the legislation required to give effect to the new measures is being undertaken as quickly as possible.
