Question:

149 Mr. O'Shea asked the Taoiseach the unemployment figures for Dungarvan for each of the years 1996 to 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27511/01]

The CSO's live register area analysis shows the number of claimants at each Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs local office. The most recent information available is for October 2001. It should be noted that the live register is not a definitive measure of unemployment as it includes part-time workers, seasonal and casual workers entitled to unemployment assistance or benefit. Statistics on unemployment are measured at regional level by the quarterly national household survey. The live register figures for Dungarvan local office from 1996 to October 2001 are set out in the following table:
