Vol. 544 No. 2

Written Answers. - Drugs Licensing.

John McGuinness

Question:

100 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the period of time a drug (details supplied) has been used in Irish hospitals; when it was first licensed; if it was used in hospitals for trial purposes. [28381/01]

I have been advised by the Irish Medicines Board, the national authority for the supervision of the controls in force on medicinal products, that the drug concerned has been authorised or licensed in Ireland since February 1994.

The Irish Medicines Board has also informed me that it has approved nine clinical trials using this drug. Four of these nine trials have current permissions under the Control of Clinical Trials Act. The permissions for the other five trials have now lapsed.
