Vol. 544 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Tom Hayes

Question:

121 Mr. T. Hayes asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the works and painting will be carried out at Golden Garda station, County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28321/01]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that, following a review of their requirements at Golden, they have recently decided that the most economical option is to refurbish the existing Garda station and official accommodation. Accordingly, the Office of Public Works has been requested to include this station on the list of works to be carried out to Garda properties.

It is not possible, however, to indicate at this time when the necessary works will commence, as this will depend on a number of factors, including the availability of finance and other resources and on overall priorities in the Garda building programme. I can say, however, that in the meantime the external redecoration of the building will be undertaken as a matter of urgency.
